A brief take on the 2023/24 Fixtures

Writer: Argyle ZoneArgyle Zone

Fixture announcement day is always one to get excited about. The hopes of starting off the league with a home fixture are admired...but against a team previously fighting against relegation? You'd have to be lucky to get that.

In fact, it seems as though Argyle may have finally been gifted 'generous' fixtures with our opening and final game of the season at home, with the first game against a struggling side, Huddersfield Town. Though they are a guaranteed easier game than the likes of Leeds or Leicester, they are certainly not a team to be written off.

Neil Warnock since his appointment at Huddersfield simply changed the team. Little hope and a team with a lack of ambition turned into a team worthy of staying in the championship. However could the Argyle 'Icon' get the upper hand on us? In front of the green army, it'll be a hard call. The 5th of August it is.

Our final game as I stated is also a home fixture, against the mighty Hull. Having finished 15th in the championship you could argue they should be a sustainable championship for next season at least. With football, however, you never know. Let's hope the ending fixture doesn't affect our fate in the league.

Finally, it's interesting to note that there are six new teams in the championship. Sky has picked five of them to showcase on tv for their opening fixtures. Of course, the forgotten 'Plymouth Argyle' written off as relegation favourites are not chosen for airtime. Time to prove everyone wrong.
